Poncha Springs, Colorado

Mt. Ouray and Chipeta Peak
A Brief Reflection About The Poncha Springs Logo

Mt. Ouray

I struggled greatly with deciding what should be the official logo for PonchaSprings.org. The recognizable peak of Mt. Shavano, the largest peak in the area, is frequently used as the "signature mountain" for logos of businesses and organizations in Salida. I couldn't go with that.

I considered something related to Poncha Pass, but reducing the town to the pass didn't seem right. I could have opted for a "safe" picture of Colorado greenery (pine trees, some aspens, maybe a grassy field), but nothing in my photographic collection "struck me". Plus, Poncha Springs isn't that green! ;)

No, I wanted something original, something unique, but captured the essence of Poncha Springs. Well, I opted for the photo above. It's Mt. Ouray and Chipeta Peak - mountains located to the southwest of town. They're sort of "underdog" moutanins because they don't quite reach the 14,000 foot threshold (that many climbers are fanatical about hiking), yet their majesty and beauty speaks for themselves. I hope you like the logo and enjoy this web site. Definitely click the above photo to see a much larger size of it!
