Poncha Pass
Pictures From A Drive From Poncha Springs To The Summit Of Poncha Pass. (January 2006)

Poncha Springs Poncha Pass does not get the respect it deserves! Firstly, it competes with a slew of larger neighboring passes that comprise the Continental Divide, such as Monarch Pass, Tincup Pass, Cottonwood Pass and Independence Pass. Poor ol' Poncha Pass "merely" divides the Arkansas River watershed and Rio Grande watershed, both east of the Continetal Divide. The summit stands 9,010 feet, which is comparatively low and it's leading to rural Saguache County (while quite scenic) lacks a certain element of "Colorado romance".
Poncha Pass Just outside of town, it is seven miles southward on Highway 285 to the summit.
Colorado Heading up the pass.
Colorado I pulled over at the turnoff for Marshall Pass. At this point, it's a 14-mile dirt road to the Continental Divide via Marshall Pass.

Two pictures of this "S" shaped bend in the road. The top was heading southbound; The north was northbound.
Mt. Ouray Heading northbound, you'll enjoy a few stunning vantage points of Mt. Ouray.

From the summit, here are two photos of the view of the northern Sangre De Cristo range. It was quite scenic!
